A cure would be perfection!

About Light The Night
At Blood Cancer United's Light The Night we gather as a community to celebrate, honor, and remember those touched by blood cancer. Companies, community partners, friends, families, and sponsors join together to instill hope and bring light to the darkness of cancer. The dollars raised by this community fund life-saving blood cancer research around the world, provide free information and support services, and help advocate for access to quality, affordable, coordinated care for patients and their families.
We are united to end blood cancer and we have a bold goal. By 2040, Blood Cancer United, formerly The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, will enable people with blood cancer to gain more than one million years of life. This means more birthdays, more graduations, more cherished moments and memories with family and friends.
Everyone with blood cancer deserves a longer, better life. Join this powerful community at a Light The Night event near you and help us create more memories for patients and their families. Together, we Light The Night.

Two years ago I had what I thought was an upper respiratory infection.  When I couldn’t catch my breath, I went to see a family practice doctor.  What I assumed would be a trip to the pharmacy and rest, turned out to be an ER visit, an ambulance ride, a 10 day hospital stay, a cancer diagnosis, a couple surgeries, fluid drained off my lungs, and my first chemo treatment.

To further complicate matters, we had an 8 month old.  We had to quickly come to grips with my Stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma diagnosis, and how to adapt to a teething, mobile baby.  We should have been able to solely focus on the many baby milestones, but instead our attention was divided by my cancer fight.

Silver lining is that we were blessed with amazing support from family and friends, and received excellent care from Nebraska Medicine.

Not everyone has the same support that I was fortunate to have.  I advocate for cancer research and medical debt relief.  I raise awareness and funds to support those going through similar blood cancer battles.  I know I am here on the backs of others, and I am turning my victory over cancer into fighting for others going through this hell.  Let us stand up for those currently battling cancer, let us fund research for improved treatments, and let us cure cancer.  Together, we can make a difference and propel progress forward!

Cancer is no stranger to my family and I. All four of my grandparents were diganosed with cancer. I always knew that I would need to keep up with appopintments for myself. I just didn't know that at the age of 25 I would hear the words, "You have cancer." A diagnosis of Stage III Hodgkins Lymphoma changed the trajecyory of my life, both personally and professionally. Today, I am proud to be 10 years cancer free and living out a dream I dreamt in the chemo chair. I am honored to be the Survivorship Social Worker at Children's Nebraska and a therapist in private practice walking alongside those in their own journeys.

My story, along with the other warriors I am lucky enough to know, is a reminder that every medical breakthrough brings hope and more time for blood cancer patients and their families. Your support of Light The Night, allows Blood Cancer United, formerly the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, to fund treatments for patients who are suffering from all forms of blood cancers. We proudly support the science that makes FDA drug approvals possible, including 80% of the 153 new approvals since 2017.

We can all agree cancer sucks, in general. “It’s kick-you-in-the-crotch, spit-on-your-neck fantastic.” Specifically for us, our dear Diana recently showed her Lymphoma the door. Like our friend Joey wearing Chandler's clothes, could we BE any more proud?!
